FEV offers hybrid drivetrain test cells 01/05/2007

Powertrain specialist FEV of Aachen has developed sophisticated test cells for its own hybrid competence centre.

Now test cells based on this knowledge and experience are being designed and constructed for external customers.
The main parts of a hybrid drivetrain comprise the IC engine, electrical load unit, gearbox, differential and tyres. In simulating such vehicles on a test bench, the dynamic machine speed control in combination with the gearbox and the electrical load unit are seen as being especially important.
Based on its standard DynaCraft model line, FEV is now offering a range of specialised solutions for hybrid applications. However, coupling an electrical load results in enhanced demands and highly complex control strategies have to be realised.

The FEV TestObjectManager is said to be able to cope with these tasks. For modelling new control structures, FEV uses Matlab-Simulink. Data acquision and automation are key to the test cell environment and TestCellManager has been designed to link and interface the variable control units for engine, gearbox and electrical management.
